Groves High School students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement as well as describes how the school and parents/families will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. 

JOINTLY DEVELOPED 

This compact was the joint effort of families, students, teachers, and administration. Each member of the “development” team offered their input into how we can help students achieve success during a Family Forum, answering survey questions, and feedback from family meetings/workshops. 

The parents, students, and staff of Groves High School partnered together to develop this school-parent compact for achievement. Teachers suggested home learning strategies, parents added input about the types of support they needed, and students told us what would help them learn. Parents are encouraged to attend annual revision meetings held in the Spring each year to review the compact and make suggestions based on student needs and school improvement goals. Parents are also encouraged to participate in the annual Title I parent survey that is also used as a tool to collect parent feedback regarding the current Title I programs and policies. 

To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand the district’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement.   

SAVANNAH-CHATHAM COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM’S GOALS:  

Goal 3: ELA & Math Achievement 

Outcome: By 2031, districtwide English Language Arts (ELA) and Math achievement will reach a 70.0 weighted Content Mastery score on Georgia Milestones. 

Goal 4: Student Attendance  

Outcome: By 2031, 90% of students in grades K-12 will be absent less than 10% of enrolled school days.  

 

Goal 5: Student Belonging and Engagement 

Outcome: By 2031, 90% of students will demonstrate positive belonging and engagement, measured by a combined index of: (1) student survey responses and (2) the inverse of the weighted suspension rate.  

 

Goal 6: Future-Ready Milestone Experiences 

Outcome: By 2031, 90% of graduates will complete at least one future-ready milestone experience (e.g., work-based learning, dual enrollment, apprenticeships, or signature experiences). 

Groves High School GOALS: 

Goal 1: By the end of the 2026–2027 school year, Groves High School will increase student performance  at the  proficient and distinguished levels on the Algebra I: Concepts and Connections GMAS End-of- Course Assessment by 5%, increasing from 10.31% to at least 10.8%, as measured by the 2027 GMAS  assessment results. 

Goal 2: By the end of the 2026-2027 school year, the percentage of students reading on grade level as  measured by the NWEA MAP End-of-Year (EOY) Assessments will increase from 40% to 50%. 

Goal 3: By the end of the 2026–2027 school year, Robert W. Groves High School will increase the Four- Year Cohort Graduation Rate from 77.3% to at least 80.4%, representing a minimum increase of 4%, as  measured by the Georgia Department of Education graduation rate data through the implementation  of targeted academic interventions, attendance monitoring, credit recovery opportunities, and  graduation support services.

To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together to: 

SCHOOL/TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Groves High School will:  

Reading, Writing & Literacy 

  • Provide targeted reading and comprehension support through weekly instructional focus blocks. 

  • Provide daily vocabulary interaction, such as the “The SAT Word of the Day” 

  • Incorporate reading across the curriculum and in all subject areas to include facilitating class discussions and including reading-based assessments and projects. 

  • Host family-teacher conferences during which literacy will be discussed as it relates to the individual students’ achievement. Conferences will be held upon the request of teachers, families, administration, or school counselors. 

             Mathematics 

  • Provide targeted math support through weekly instructional focus blocks. 

  • Provide mathematics support and development through monthly STEM/STEAM Activities. 

  • Provide online resource to support acquisition and practice of mathematical concepts. 

  • Host family-teacher conferences during which mathematic will be discussed as it relates to the individual students’ achievement. Conferences will be held upon the request of  

teachers, families, administration, or school counselors. 

PARENT/FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

We, as parents, will: 

Reading, Writing & Literacy 

  • Create a supportive environment where students are encouraged to read independently at least 5 hours per week.  

  • Review daily vocabulary with their student. 

  • Review students’ PowerSchool grade and attendance reports weekly ensure students are actively engaging in the learning environment 

  • Attend family-teacher conferences and other events as needed to ensure their student’s academic literacy success. 

          Mathematics 

  • Provide access to online resource to support students as they practice mathematical concepts. 

  • Create a supportive environment where students are encouraged to explore careers in STEM/STEAM. 

  • Review students’ PowerSchool grade and attendance reports weekly to ensure students are actively engaged in the learning environment. 

  • Attend family-teacher conferences and other events as needed to ensure their student’s academic success in mathematics. 

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES: 

I, the student, will: 

Reading, Writing & Literacy 

  • Read independently at least 5 hours per week.  

  • Review, practice, and use target vocabulary words throughout the week 

  • Attend family teacher conferences to ensure that the provided literacy information and strategies are implemented to ensure their academic success 

           Mathematics 

  • Actively practice mathematical concepts at least 5 hours per week. 

  • Explore careers in STEM/STEAM independently or by practicing in extra-curricular activities and clubs. 

  • Attend family teacher conferences to ensure that the provided literacy information and strategies are implemented to ensure their academic success
