Cell Phone Policy Information

Thank you, Rebel Nation families and students, for your continued support as Robert W. Groves High School implements the district's cell phone policy.

Our goal is to protect instructional time, reduce distractions, and maintain a learning environment where students can remain focused and engaged.

As we continue implementation, we want to make sure all students and families clearly understand the expectations and procedures moving forward.

Cell Phones Must Be Secured

Students are required to place their cell phones and other applicable personal electronic devices inside their district-issued secure pouch and lock the pouch as required each school day.

Students should not have access to their devices during restricted times. We have become aware that some students are attempting to manipulate or bypass the locking mechanism of the pouch. Tampering with the pouch or intentionally leaving it unlocked in order to access a device is not permitted and will be treated as a violation of the cell phone policy.

Teachers and administrators will conduct checks throughout the school day to ensure that devices are properly secured and that pouches are actually locked.

What Happens if a Student Violates the Policy?

If a student does not secure or surrender a device, or if a student is found with or using a device during the school day:

• An administrator will be contacted, and the device will be confiscated.
• The student will receive the appropriate consequence in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
• A parent/guardian will be contacted the same day regarding the violation.
• The device will NOT be returned directly to the student.
• The device will remain secured at the school until it is retrieved by a parent or guardian.
• Parents/guardians may pick up confiscated devices between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., during regular campus operating hours.

Please plan accordingly, as students will not be permitted to retrieve confiscated devices on behalf of their parents or guardians.

Lost or Damaged Pouches

Students are responsible for maintaining their district-issued cell phone pouch.

If a pouch is lost, destroyed, or damaged and requires replacement, the replacement cost is $22.00.

Students may take care of the replacement process in the Groves High School Media Center.

Intentionally damaging, altering, cutting, or otherwise manipulating a pouch to gain access to a device is unacceptable.

Consistency Is Key

We need the partnership of our students, families, faculty, and staff to ensure that this policy is implemented consistently throughout our learning environment.

Please speak with your student about the importance of following these expectations each day. Our teachers and administrative team will continue monitoring compliance and reinforcing the policy throughout the school day.
